What happens when faithful Christians agree that forgiveness is commanded—but disagree about when it actually takes place?
In this follow-up episode of The Rooted Way, we sit down with Pastor Greg Neely and Neill Dowell to revisit the question of biblical forgiveness from several different perspectives.
Building on our previous episode, we work through passages like Mark 11:25, Luke 17:3–4, Matthew 6, Ephesians 4, Colossians 3, Acts 7, and Matthew 18 as we discuss whether forgiveness is extended before repentance or only after it, and how that question relates to reconciliation, accountability, consequences, and restored trust.
This isn’t a debate over whether Christians should forgive. The disagreement is over what forgiveness actually is, what repentance changes, and how the different biblical passages fit together.
The conversation also explores the danger of reducing forgiveness to “forgive and forget,” especially in serious situations where wisdom, boundaries, discipline, or consequences may still be necessary.
Our goal is not simply to pick a side, but to let Scripture define the categories and help us think more carefully about what it means to forgive as followers of Christ.
